We want to fly, to scale those heights, to excel in whatever we do, to do something for our parents, country and society. We know we will be able to face tomorrow with faith and hope, if we tackle today with enthusiasm, interest and enjoyment. We know we're the master of our own destiny. We are the CHANGE, we are L.O.C.

New year wishes !!
Rightly said that time and tide waits for none and if their is a God it is time.
This should be a good opportunity for us at L.O.C. to express our experiences of 2008 and talk about resolutions in 2009.
Talking about mine, the year 2008 had been one of the kind which my emotional part would like to forget. But like many previous years, it also proved to be a wonderful learning experience, only at much higher amplitude. Not many things are crossing my mind but i would like to mention some moments which altered the usual course of my lifestyle,
:hectic 52 and 61 semesters reminded of early NERIST days,
:much dreaded electromagnetic theory paper proved to be a cake walk, with new records set on part of scores like 99.5 by Bed in mid sem.
:mass confusion among the two batches 2k2 and 2k3 relating to organizing the technical event SHRISTI 08 led to voting in SUN and controversy ending in a big flop decision but a decent SHRISTI.
:an exciting exit of block A in semis round of NERIST cricket tournament, and cricket proving its worth in the closest and arguably most exciting ever match in NERIST history, the champianship decider going to the bowl out and Block H held their nerves over an equally skilled Block F to take the crown.
:a sad year on account of the losses that it incurred, my sincere

STRUGGLE
We have hard work to do, and loads to lift.
Shun not the struggle, 'ts God's gift.
If in the fulfilling of the law,
I am broken, bruised and bent,
I must know, it is best so,
And be content and be content.
If i cry out for fellowship
A comrade's voice, a comrade's grip,
A hand to hold me when i slip,
An ear to heed my groan !
Renew that hour's dark ecstasy,
When all Thy waves went over me,
And thou and I, with none to see,
Were joined in fight alone.
If i demand a sheltered space
Set for me in the battle-place,
Where I at times could turn my face
A screened and welcome guest;
Decree my soul should henceforth cease
From its wild hankering after peace,
And rest in that which gives release
From the desires of rest.

I am what I am !!
I believe in face to face conversations rather than over the phone or worse still thru e-mails.
I believe there's more to this world than the earthly pursuit of happiness or money.
I believe to attain humility is the highest stage of hypocracy.
I believe pride is essential to life.
I believe there's no heaven or hell except the one we're in and know all too well. That true love is an illusion.
That religion is the root of all evil today.
That if you're not willing to die for something, your life is not worth living.
That chaos and creation take place simultaneously in every backyard. That this space is the only outlet for the pent up frustration in wannabies such as you and I.
That knowledge is endless but wisdom is greater.
That contemporary pop is fit only for lesser developed humans.
That politics is the only honest profession cuz no one fucks around claiming to be a saint.
That sooner or later everyone burns out, but what matters is the flame that once was. Here's to that flame.
I am what I am !!

DiaRY(2) continues...
"is that a shooting star?", somebody unremarkable guessed..
well, late this night I am upstairs, upstairs on the block roof, siting silently, alone, gazing the star-studded beauty, reinventing luminosity every second...some dark corner unobserved to...it looks like every detail is a creation in itself..has its own significance. Lips murmuring, fingers pointing, back lounging still..i found myself calculating unmindfully, feeling silly yet doing something irrelevant to me, to anyone, discovering the orions and nevula of early winter fall...booming with preen and success of the same. I felt a chill running through my spine...even though I am well-rigged, garnished by my fur-necked 'ruggers' woolen jacket, promising me to sit laxed, undeviant ...but the wind is soaring high, it is real cold..i stood up.
"damn! what the f*** man..this bloddy loadsheading in NERIST is on its peak nowadays", his voice broke the silence embracing me, shattered my perpetuated nature fondness..i prepared to leave...i looked around and then.....
lights off, the atmosphere appear hazy, the creamy touch of the wind, the gloomyness of the way-off straight laden soiled blockway, every blurred detalis, reminded me, reconstructing the same left-over dream, filling the same notions, springing the unfulfilled vision.....I REMEMBERED MY DREAM!!
....year 2030.....miss Catherine Green....and my name....some....Douglas?
the words ring deep down my conscience...accepting the conceived contradictions, but a still majority kneeling it to absurdness and irrationality.
“Dreams are the answers to questions that we haven't yet figured out how to ask.”
“Dream what you want to dream; go where you want to go; be what you want to be, because you have only one life and one chance to do all the things you want to do.”
in terms of psychology,"dreams are the conscious reality of the unconcious mind."
i sat down again perplexed, eyes fixed, heart temptating, mind swaying apart running through severe skepticism...i sat for full 10 minutes...emotionally drawn, speechless...
"so, dat's what i want from life?"
"so, i am mentally dawned to lose my nationality, my culture, my religion(though i am agnostic), my pride, my essence...my NAME in need, in future...dat's what i will do?"
"does being an Indian mean nothing to me even after my brought-up here since birth?"
"what if..."
"and......."
...oh, there are so many of them.....
.....i looked for answers, defending myself over myself..the questions keep springing up.
q1:why should I not feel like an Indian even though am one of them??
----sounds really simple, simpler the reasons..
why should anyone want to be in India? already 102 crore plus, difficult to get noticed, swinging jobs, witty, dirty politics, delayed, uncustomised law and order, populous poverty, unsystemised megacities and as if its not already too much, now the added curse: a hub of global terrorism...
q2:excuse me,every coin has two faces...you are missing the good phases..remember, India is secular, democratic and sovereign, it is not an ally, its independent and follows global norms, treaties of mutual benefit and cooperation...what do you say to that?
----regarding your 'unity in diversity'agenda...i'll start with the north-east only.In Assam,ULFA and NDFB of boro tribes, Manipur's Peoples Liberation Army, UNLF & PREPAK, Nagaland has NSCN-IM and NSCN-K. National Liberation Front of Tripura, All Tripura Tiger Force insurging Tripura, Meghalaya's ANVC, HNLC & Mizoram has Hmar People's Convention-Democracy,HPC(D) and BNLF. They want a country of their own,,,the arunachalis considering themselves as the left-over china, nagas commemorate their seperate independence day, meghalaya following the wastern culture to the limit possible, south India considering themselves way off, aloof from the rest. MNS, Bajrang Dal, RSS..dividing the nation on bases new found...and you talk about treaties?...the entire nation bisected for a single nuclear deal!!

(oh! forgot to mention you....I changed my name...am not Debabrata anymore.....but kept my initials DD...I mean, I adopted Christianity.)
"thank you...Miss. Green..I must say you are looking great(laughs) and a very good afternoon to all the viewers out here..it has been a pleasure to be a part of the "PEOPLE"...yeah,i worked really hard, put on innovation, surveyed what best suites our customers since back in 2015 when I arrived US from India and joined my first firm as a marketing executive at a Wal-Mart subsidiary store..it just carried on from there....it's simply.a dream come true"
"OK,you are probably the next style-icon, the passion driving Americans crazy...so tell us about your choices"
"starting with literature....i read a lot of Mario Puzo..specially "godfather"...i fell in love with it and in classics,i think mark twain did a great job. i like Spielberg movies and 'battleship Potemkin' is really a masterpiece, i think."
"tell us more about your wardrobe collections"
"its listless,come on"
"our viewers are your fan,for them....if you can....just line up a few...i think you can do that...i am a personal fan of your work,i admit to that"
"thank you for that....ok......then,let me tell you some chords that always strike hard on me, my favorite wardrobe is a 'Armani versace', 'Christine Dior' or a 'Louis Vuitton'. a 'versace' tuxedo is an all time favorite...'new york' pants, shoes from 'lee cooper',London, sunglasses from 'Chanel' are a few of my chosen ones......you know, it's hard to be a style icon"
"let's come to the lighter part of you, you work throughout the year...where do you like to spend your holidays anyway?"
"well, well, well....my favorite city would be London, fleet street and i have my personal holiday consultant 'Conde Nast' which is a french-based company"
"we heard a lot about you being choosy in your dinner table...can you let me know your personal favorite list just?"
"ok....if you go to my shelf, you will find all the essence of Chinese, Italian top classes...i like lasagna, basically its Italian flavored essentially with the essence of acorn and almonds"
"it's my favorite too..ok,Mr. Douglas, tell us something about Indian....you are of Indian origin, i heard about"
"well,India is great....India.......India is a great country...well,don't stress it now, i am an American now and that's what really matters"
.....suddenly, it turned black...
i had nothing to say.
the mesmerizing flavor of the serene air gone, the atmosphere turning gloomy, i could feel my cheeks getting warmer...Miss Green evanesced somewhere amid all this...i opened my eyes.
"gosh, it was a dream?"
the splintering sunlight plunged into my face, the winter wind gentle on my hair...aligning it sideways...forcing me to close the shutter...wake up, sit still, yawning, hibernate for a while.
my sis marched over to my pillow side, handled me the bedroom tea, dressing the coir and blankets back to place.
"bro, you woke up so early...it's not even six...anyway, good morning bro"
"good morning, its sunny already dear."

Sometimes, its better to think less.
Sometimes, its better to make yourself on the safe side, be on the optimist part of "you"....the part of you everybody knows about, talk about.
Sometimes, i should not care about these things.
Maybe something about the sometimes is "sometimes somewhere true".......but what about when that something comes over to you, again and again, questions about "you"...questions WHO I AM and WHAT I SHOULD DO...QUESTIONS ABOUT MY WHOLE EXISTENCE...MY ENTIRE PRESENCE..my purpose of THIS LIFE!!

7.30 in the evening.
Christmas eve.
Time Warner studios.New York,USA.
The film rolls and "action".
I sat cross-legged, plunging backward down the laxed upholstered couch, cigars lined up along the fathomed, much adorned cigar-box cedar especially 4 me. I could see the focused young white fellow man-handling the six Sony cinematography cameras lined up inclined side-by side for a better view, the lightening instrumentals, the soothing aroma, sizzling freshener, bulged up luminosity...and....the much fancied Miss Catherine Green was by my side, gazing at me. I must say she was looking amazing, glamorous. but after all, I was the star of the night.
Two pieces of "PEOPLE" lay by my side, cornering the see-through glass piece, also comprising of lavender vase, blue Chinese terracotta vessel adding to the beauty of the show...
I have been chosen the "fashion icon of the 'Christmas issue' edition" of the 'PEOPLE' magazine...the 'Washington post' addressing me as the 'person of the year'. I was famous.
The set, the stage was simply perfect.
"OK,Mr.Denise Douglas, you had a long journey to get to here, tell us more about it."

’maybe someday’?
If you had to look back on your life what would you remember?
The promotion?
The performance bonus?
The plaque in the conference room?
It doesn’t take supreme intelligence to know what really matters.
And yet, you do little besides look in the distance and sigh.
Wouldn’t it be tragic to realize too late that you didn’t see the trap, that you didn’t recognize the two words that are the biggest curse of humanity…’maybe someday’?

“One touch, one glance, can change a whole life.”
“He looked just like an ordinary man, with nothing remarkable about Him. He used the simplest language, and I thought, ‘Can this man be a great teacher?’ I crept near him and asked him the questions which I had been asking others all my life. ‘Do you believe in God, Sir?’ ‘Yes’. ‘How can you?’ ‘Because I see Him just as I see you here, only in a much more intense sense.’ That impressed me at once. For the first time I found a person who dared to say that he saw God, that religion was a reality, to be felt, to be sensed in an infinitely more intense way than we can sense the world. I began to go to that man, day after day, and I actually saw that religion could be given. One touch, one glance, can change a whole life.”

Let us do a GANDHI....
regrets for you felt hurt on the choice of my words.but sir i never blamed you.i never questioned your dreams, i never questioned your fundamentals, your teachings.may be sir i sounded like a pessimist in my last letter, but i needed to share my frustration with someone.i needed the strength, the words of inspiration from a man who stood for non-violence,truth all his life and even in his death.you said it right that i have withstood the tornadoes, the torpedoes, the onslaugth of the invaders from time infinitum and i have it in me to survive,to prosper and to grow.
i do hope that i give you a better bharat on your next birthday..
always in need of your ever so encouraging words...
yours truly,
bharat@gandhi's people.com

To Bharat,,
Gandhiji felt extremely sad on hearing your pathetic status. But the fact that worsened his sadness was the pessimism on your part. History has been evident, that not once or twice but time infinitum, you stood witness to strife, conflict, hunger, communalism, division, patrtition. And always, it was you who led your people through this to a brighter and prosperous world.
gandhiji , for last 50 years or so, never bothered to write to anyone down there, for his unshakeable belief in you.He always believed that the heavenly beings would keep putting "you" to tests as they had been.If you remember not so long ago, what went over your soil during partition, it would give you the requisite strength. The whole world denied you a chance to exist but you did and you continue to do so and you would.
Sir,Gandhiji feels you have taken a bet from present politicians in writting the stated letter. You have tried to forego your responsibility by laying the blame on gandhiji and his people.Gandhiji feels extreme dejection on usage of such words. He intends to ask, whether you have forgotten that gandhi and all his people are your sons and daughters. He requests you to please remember that you are none other than "bharat".The land which was originator of knowledge in form of vedas, the land which taught the world universal acceptance and tolerance,The land which laid down unshakeable pillars of secularism amidst communal strife.
In his own words,"My friend,My Inspiration please empower your fairheaded sons and daughters to fight against your own evil headed sons.Again, everyone has to fight the evil and not the imbibers of evil"
He appeals to one and all, to be rational and tolerant.
Expecting a better birthday present next time.
your's truly
MK Gandhi
(Through himself and his secretary.)

In my home,i discover my ping-pong table,my cricket bat just to add some sweat,a daily stadium round up, finishing 50 pages of novel a day, visiting new places i lost interests before, and let me tell you...I REALLY ENJOY MY LIFE NOW....
yeah, how I feel what we can do for ourselves,or here I can do for myself. In one years' span ahead,I'll enter a cycle of business, readyness, unwillingness yet compassioning an unintentional fondness.....I need to adjust then, put these(present) thoughts to a halt, slide it aside, call it a 'crap,non-sensical,improvident thinking'.Now that's a year ahead I talked about....lets' come to now.
In the past few months,i relished these trendy manners; the sudden adventure of something 'new'; the satisfaction in trying something you never did before; or boring into life some moments you enjoyed, may be rooted in the past; the need of accountancy, the value of distributed time; the need to look around me,feel what I see and most importantly, keeping a record intact,on this diary page.....
I am not a profound writer,an eminent philosopher or someone one really hear about, care about....resembling a tiny speck,a diminutive seed whose possibilities stretch boundless...yet I owe a value to myself,a value undefined,undiscovered.....somewhat,like what our little earth belongs to the eternity outside, the colossal universe we feel so great to be a part of it.My point is,I am significant and I feel what appies for me applies for all of us.
"live life, don't just survive it","make your own directions',follow your own way" is my prima-facie.I felt it,I steered myself and I changed, changed myself to my needs. It's all about ME,the insight of someone speaking through ME,my inner ME......for somebody who care to bypass this far.....my final words.....
In life, possibilities are endless,it's not everyday you remain happy--sometimes you don't bother, sometimes you don't have time to bother. For the former, just think about it,just find the "why" and you'll find your way out if not the way I found myself, just move around some air to think about yourself, think about someone who cared for you, someone who you care and blending up the missing moments...and I guess you'll never be the same again....just give it a thought, just think about it...For the latter,I haven't gone through it....it lay there in front of me...undispensed,unexperienced.
Its 10:55,my 'flyhorse' gleaming...official sleeping shift...my celluloid page moulding frost already......the clock tickling, the flickering distant lights across that runaway farm, the autumn echoing sirens, slowing traffic, glimmering overhead....all catch my eyes as i take a nightstroll and gradually the last two hours move into 'the forbidden past'.....a part of my life that helped me understand me,yet someway never getting a place in my 'day tomorrow'...the 'busy tomorrow'....never asking "why?"!!!!!
....post culminated.....end of the night.......

Vijayadashami (Kannada: ವಿಜಯದಶಮಿ, Telugu: విజయదశమి Hindi: विजयदशमी, Marathi: विजयादशमी), also known as Dussehra (Kannada: ದಸರ, Telugu: దసరా, Tamil: விஜயதசமி, Hindi: दशहरा, Urdu: دشھرہ, Marathi: दसरा) and Dashain (in Nepali), is a festival celebrated in varying forms across Nepal and India. It is celebrated on the tenth day of the bright fortnight (Shukla Paksha) of the Hindu autumn month of Ashvin or Ashwayuja, and is the grand culmination of the 10-day annual Navratri (Sanskrit: नवरात्रि, nine nights) festival.
The underlying tradition and mode of celebration vary vastly by region. However, all festivities celebrate the victory of the forces of Good over Evil. It is considered an auspicious day to begin new ventures in life. It is the largest festival of Nepal, and celebrated by Hindu and non-Hindu Nepalis alike.

i am twenty-one,old enough to understand the value of a single day, every single passing minute and the aspirations, the utility of coming tomorrow yet to shower on me.....and yet i follow the same rules, the same guidelines, the prompted fundamentals which was set for me....never ever looking back, never ever asking myself "why?"
Well, the page is not a trendsettler, neither a scrupolous dissatisfaction...it's a revolutionary momentum about how i look at my life....just a little trendy way of looking whats' in and whats' out, whats' done and whats' need to be done, whats' missing and how to settle it,again never asking "why?" because sometimes it doesn't matter....
let me see why it even occured to me to even write something like this....may be life's dragging me like never before-----scheduled daily routine, the missing randomness, messy deadlines, fucked up surprises, overtly studies,sickly-silly-romantic or friendly ties.......what the f***!!!
it took me a while to study myself,my dissatisfaction,my needs,my business,my self contentedness.....and i felt 'I NEED TO CHANGE SOMETHING'...and i have!!
let me rewind my accomplishments.....
i kept myself busy all times, planned each day ahead, gave myself some air moving around, gave time to myself(thinking about what am doing now), yet find time for my sweetheart, learn and remorse about how someone whose dark, helpful, aspirant and delicate imprints today leaves no mark tomorrow, like he stands a worth "worthless"....anyway,leave it...
i found pleasure in doing something i never did before...singing loud on myself, pouring myself to gossips and new frendlies, stuffing full plate meals, endeavouring a sleek, round physical buildup, exercising 1*7 a week....
In my home,i discover my ping-pong table,my cricket bat just to add some sweat,a daily stadium round up, finishing 50 pages of novel a day, visiting new places i lost interests before, and let me tell you...I REALLY ENJOY MY LIFE NOW....

this is bharat calling.
hope this blog finds you in the best of your moods.you dreamt of bharat-a bharat of peace, a secular state where people will live in religious harmony, a bharat where everyone will get the roti, kapada aur makaan....'I' believed in your dreams, 'I' believed in your people but see what they did to me..There was one nathuram who killed you Gandhiji but 'I' had the faith that your dreams will live with your people....There are hundreds of nathuram trying to kill your dreams ...'I' am helpless...these nathurams don't belong to any religion, caste,state.....when they kill people they don't see the religion, they just kill..but your people, the common man, brings religion into the whole process and the situation becomes worse.....Gandhi please tell your people not to become a victim of this foul play of the fanatics....Gandhi please persuade them to follow the path of ahmisha, truth and persevearence...Make them believe that Gandhigiri still works if not rocks...
yours truly,
a victim of his own people---bharat.

mY dIaRy......
28 sept.'08
9.55pm
its pitch black outside...actually its the amavalsya onset, the cult, the hour is approaching....the omen of mahalaya is springing up high on my mind....tomorrow morning,5 am to be exact...i am in my verandah, sitting idle down the lazy stairs, calm breeze from the pond flushing my face, all silence admidst the frogs cannoping, fireflies buzzing, crickets moving around aimlessly....but i am not here to say what i see,its about what's on my mind right now....something useless to talk about but something you always carry along...
it is strange what i want from life...everytime i reach a goal,i begin a journey again,in search of a new horizon, setting a new target, improvishing new conscience, rejuvernating new ideas...but this is how life goes on,i console myself..without getting any further..or may be this is the "definition of life".
ya...this is what i dedicate my thoughts to now...my next few lines yearn to find a resonable conclusion to justify my life or rather think twice about the same....k,now its not everyday i think about my life....how i am living and how i will live it. well,i am plain,middle-classed,averaged,techcrazy,agnostic just like the most of 'us'....here,you don't make your options really, simply chose one of the few favorites someone chose for you...and get going....
i am twenty-one,old enough to understand the value of a single day, every single passing minute and the aspirations, the utility of coming tomorrow yet to shower on me.....

The questionnaire's answer
Name: Rohit rai
Nick name: David, The man himself, Gigolo and what not!! Sometimes positive, inspired by my thoughts. A couple of times negative as well, brought about by my notions of libertal existence and universal freedom.
Hobbies: Varied and is stated on a time dynamic axis.
NERIST:
A platform , an infrastructure. It gave me an oppurtunity to groom myself from a kid to a boy and then to a man.
EC 2K3:
The first feeling was, what the crap!! these guys suck!! Egoistical, hypocratic!!. But over the years things has changed and of course, for better.
A name that to me is synonymous of excellence. If ever there was a word called “problem”, there was always a another word “EC2K3” that stood for solution. The proof ofcourse could be had from the sheer propensity of the EC2K3ians to lead. And these vary to fields innumerous.
A source of pride!! When ever i look back and realise that i am acknowledged and revered by EC2K3, It invariably meant that i am done the same at higher levels .If ever there was a batch with such variety and a knack to excel, I, at times feel, could be just second to us.
And most importantly, a source of identity .
This name gave me a feeling of belongingness, an aura of elation, bouts of laughter, charm of team wotrk, and an oppurtunity to actualise .
**
“This with all the respect and admiration intact, for our seniors. We recognise their contribution at various levels , which in one or the other, has powered us and made us confident enough to stand and say this”
What to me, LOC is?
LOC !! to me would be a culmination of an desire to be extravagantly extrovert. Simultaneously, a aspiration to rope in other people who desired the same and needed a platform. Literally, an aspired endeavour. An endeavour to bring about change.A change if i could be a part of.
The word “change” is really important , for i was bored of the way life happened (in the words of atanu chatterjee, sindri). Somewhere down the line, i wanted crowd to be more vibrant. SO THAT, INSTEAD OF LIFE HAPPENING , LIFE IS LIVED.
I am pretty sure, this has put a very blurred and not so specific picture of what LOC is!!!
But then, that was what it meant to be, at the first place. It was touted to be defined by each individual in it’s own specific terms to develop and actualise his/her potential. To put it in very crude form, It was meant to make leaders out of individuals. May be, you would feel, “isn’t this getting overboard”. No! would be the answer.Simply put, Even a failure would have meant, a potential leader.
Precisely put, LOC , to me, meant to be the path to the end, Never the cult itself.
My identity:
May be, my ability to strike chord with people. May be, my ability to create laughter or May be, my ability to take things at serendipity.
“May be” ????
Because, an identity is a gradual development brought about by the symbiosis of character, nature and will. For the time being, the gradual development is in process. The symbiosis and the will to create it would require effort . Even more importantly, time.
Give me time ! and then may be, it would be my work that would define my identity, some day.
On a scale of 5.00
My commitment towards life:: 1.0
My commitment towards friends:: 4.95
My connitment towards LOC:: 0.5

What is LOC?????????????
one question was asked by a first year yestreday....bhaiya ye LOC kya hai???
these thoughts came in my mind and it took the shape of this blog...............
LOC is that highway where you get to explore the world not from your minds but by the ignited minds of others....LOC is a platform where you see the world from others point of view....
we always wonder why people quarrel, why people have difference of opinions....we can lubricate this friction if we can think what others think...and for that you have to listen to them....by doing this you develop a 3-D approach to any situation....
LOC dreams...dream of that world where people will be willing to lend their ears to others...where people will talk to each other...
once again to the batchmates(batch of 2k3), friends we never ever thought that LOC will create a rift among us. Friends, LOC is open to all your gusssssa and desperation.....can we talk?????
teacher's day celebrations...
Great feeling being part of this wonderful batch. The way we organized the celebrations within a very small time ---o man,,,this batch deserves the kudos...
one thing i would like to add is LOC is an idea. it's not an organization. The LOCians are no different from each student of the 2k3 batch. We hope our batchmates(who think that LOC has created a canyon among us) will one day appreciate this idea.

Minutes of the Meeting conducted on September 04, 2008
While in the meeting, we were reminded of the famous lines of great Tagore;” where the head is held high and the mind is without fear…”
This was a meeting with Dr. (Ms.) S. Sinha (In charge T&P NERIST) for discussing the placement scenario at NERIST organized by L.O.C. on behalf of student community, and the talk was phenomenal in each and every sense of word. Following are the minutes of the meeting.
1. The meeting started with a welcome note from Mr. Rohit Rai, on behalf of organizers L.O.C.
( Lawn de’ Organizing Committee) who precisely tried to put the idea behind the formation of this group, and stressed upon the fact that this is more of an idea than an organization, with throwing light on the essence of such creative ideas.
2. The proposed topic of the day was started by Mr. Kr. Saurav on behalf of the students. He stated the purpose of the meeting, highlighted the issues at disposal, and the emphasized upon the need of directives from Madam.
Following major Issues were discussed: -
1. Having a separate staff for full time devotion to the T&P cell: - To this issue Madam clearly stated that such a decision was out of her jurisdiction. But she expressed that such a decision will surely help.
2. Lack of cohesive unit: - Grave concern was shown for the lack of cohesiveness among all the 22 people working for the improvement of T&P scenario in NERIST. And it was concluded to have more dedication from the students’ side as has been in the past.
3. Role of students in T&P: - We discussed about having a structure where one student from each branch will constantly collect information about various companies of their interest viz. Address, phone No., Email ID and give it to T&P cell through proper channel and at the same time get regular directives from Madam and pass it on to fellow branch mates.
4. Comparison of the whole scenario with that of AEC, JEC etc.: - Madam stressed on the fact that the placement scenario in JEC in particular is worse than that of NERIST and students should not worry as enough efforts are being from T&P NERIST. The point that students are ready to visit Guwahati/ Silchar somehow negates the disadvantage that we have from the geographical point of view.
5. Lack of Cooperation from JEC, AEC, NIT Silchar: - We agreed that this was an obvious case of the insecurity feeling that these institutes have for the technical abilities of their students compared to us.
6. Role of NEPIF: - North Eastern Professional Institute Forum is an organization which is instrumental in the assisting with the placements in institutes all over the North east region, and NERIST is in full resonance with such initiatives.
New Ideas for NERIST: -
1. The proposed website: - Our SUN representatives took this opportunity to inform all those present, that a separate website will be soon launched solely for the purpose of placements for NERIST students and a database containing all required information will be stored in it. They will soon notify this from the platform of SUN.
2. Conducting regular Aptitude Tests for students: - The Idea of the day came from Mr. Gokul Deka, who proposed a new era of preparing competitive environment in NERIST. The idea was unanimously agreed to be taken for execution just after the Mid semester exams. For this, Madam proposed that students who are already placed must come forward.
Suggestions from MADAM for students: -
1. Need of improving Expressions: - Madam expressed extreme dejection to the present condition of NERIST students who according to her were invariably competitive technically, but fall well below when it comes to expressing ideas. She stressed upon the need of realization among students that communication skill is very important for placement in particular and professional life in general.
2. Creating a Positive Image of the institute: - She also advised us to realize the sense of responsibility while we are representing our institute outside and the need to incorporate values such as loyalty towards our alma mater.
3. Lack of students’ initiative: - Appreciating the inspirational students’ support in past she pointed towards the need to continue the trend for the success story of T&P.
Vote of thanks: -
The meeting concluded with the vote of thanks from Mr. Sachin Kashyap on behalf of L.O.C. who mentioned the boost students got from the wonderful support Madam showed by sharing time with all of us at such a short notice. He also thanked T&P secretaries S.U.N. who showed interest in the meeting and all the fellow students who gracefully represented their branches.
At students level we are hopeful of creating a positive environment, and parting the communication gap across different sections of the institute.

What i think?
Ok guys, exams approching. keep yourself focused on studies..
best of luck for coming MID........
Prakash
Nickname: Prakash, Aakash
Hobby: I like to play cricket, watching movies, listening songs and like to enjoy every moments with friends.
The best part of cricket, is the team man spirit and the commitment towards it, which according to me, is in my instinct.
Movies and songs give us a nice interpretation of the life that we are living and has got an immense meaning in it.
Friends are the best companion to whom, you can rely on, and the moments together always result in enjoyment.
What comes in your mind ?
NERIST: It gave me the identity of being called as a NERISTian. For me, its an opportunity to learn each and every aspect of life, so that I can stand and compete with the outside world. It’s a place for me where I found that what I am and really got a chance to know myself. It’s a place for me, where I enjoyed my life to the fullest.
EC-2K3: It signifies to a group of people, no matter, how diversified they are, have a common identity, bonded together for the cause of a common spirit of togetherness. In spite of all outward differences, strifes, struggles and variations that exist, there is love, union and understanding among us.
The talent and the hunger they have within them is remarkable.
LOC: Its an idea initiated to bring transformation in our lives, thinking and all the unique qualities which the human being can imagine. It’s a place where we can nourish ourselves, think differently and learn how to work as a team. It’s a platform where we 15 members have learnt to make a change, and how to implement it to bring a change in others.
Your identity: My identity is my name, which itself reflects what I am. My heart is as pure as the teachings of Vedas, and I am spreading this purity using ‘Prakash’. I want knowledge should be spread to everywhere and should reach to each and everyone.
Your learning/ contributions to LOC: I have learned to think differently and trying to apply this to make things done in real life. I learned how to work as a team and learned that to organize something, even if the division of work has been made, we should try to help other members in his work. I learned, if we people want to do something, it’s the willpower within us, which will make a way for us. Moreover, I learned to analyze things, and if possible put my interpretation in front of others, which will help me to know, where I am going wrong.
As I am also a captain of the ship, so plays an immense role while ship was initiating its journey. It was needed to give initial direction to the ship, and I was also there while we were planning for that. Whenever, we members thought of an idea , I also gave my opinion and came in front whenever needed. When I am committed to something, I am always there to make a way for it.
Rate yourself
Committed towards life : 5.0
Committed towards friends: 4.7
Committed towards LOC: 4.5
Idea of LOC: The idea is to make a change, and how we are going to bring it, it totally depends on the members. My idea of LOC, is a group consisting of 15 members, with each trying to know themselves and implement it to work as a team, for the cause of improving their personality so that they can withstand the pressure when they will move to professional competitive world. We are here to bring some constructive change, which in a way or other, is going to be beneficial for us as well as to the mankind. There is no harm in having meeting once in a week, but even during the gap, if we can be in touch, its better for our existence. At the end of every meeting, we need to make a questionnaire and try to find out the flaws and also suggestions, so that we can implement it in the next meeting. Human being s always have a tendency to feel bore if given same type of task again and again, so why not we bring change in some of our thinking.

Why Geeks and Nerds are worth dating!!
"In the wide world of dating, there are many options. Do you go for the flashy guy with the smooth smile, or the dude in the corner typing away on his laptop? The following are reasons why I think my fellow females should pay more attention to the quiet geeks and nerds, and less attention to the flashy boys.
- While geeks and nerds may be awkward, they're well-meaning 9 out of 10 times. That smooth dude with the sly grin and the spider hands? Wonder what HIS intentions are... plus, I've never had a geek guy not call me when he said he would. Score major points THERE.
- They're useful. In this tech-savvy world, it's great to have a b/f who can make your laptop, desktop, and just about anything else that plugs into a wall behave itself.
- They're more romantic than they're given credit for. Ok true, their idea of romance might be to make up a spiffy web-page with all the reasons why they love you, with links to pics of you and sonnets and such... but hey. It lasts longer than flowers, plus you can show your friends.
- Due to their neglected status, there are plenty to choose from. You like 'em tall and slender? There are plenty of geeks/nerds who are. You like 'em smaller with more meat on their bones? Got that too.
- They've got brains. Come on now, how can intelligence be a bad thing?
- Most are quite good at remembering dates. Like birthdates and such, especially if they know it'll make you happy. Due again to their neglected status, they're more attentive than guys who "have more options". Plus, with all that down time without a steady girlfriend, they'll likely have mental lists of all the things they'd love to do once they GOT a girlfriend.
- Sex. Yep. Sex. I'm not really familiar with this myself, but I've friends who've been intimate with geek guys and it's raves all around. They say a virgin wrote the Kama Sutra... all that time thinking about sex, imagining sex, dreaming about sex, (they are male after all) coupled with a desire to make you happy? Use your imagination.
- They're relatively low-maintenance. Most can be fueled on pizza, Twinkies and Mt Dew. No complicated dinners needed here, so if you're not the best cook, eh. Can you order a pizza?
- Most frequent bars as often as slugs frequent salt mines. You won't have to worry much about your geek guy getting his "groove" on with club hotties because, frankly, he'll be too busy rooting around under his computer wondering where that spare cable went. You won't have to worry about him flirting with other women because, 9 out of 10 times, he'll zip right by them in a perfect b-line towards the nearest electronics store. I've seen this happen.
Me: "Eww. Victoria Secret's Models... They're so skinny. How is that feminine?
You can see her ribs!"
Geek Guy: "ooooooo..."
Me: "Hey!" *notices he is staring lustfully towards the computer store*
Geek Guy: "What?"
Me: "Never mind..."
- Although he may not want to go to every outing with you, you can arrange swaps, as in, you'll go to his Gamer Con dressed as an elf princess if he'll take you to the ballet. Plus, if he doesn't want to go someplace with you, you won't have to worry much about what he's up to. You'll probably come home to find him asleep on his keyboard in a sea of Mt. Dew cans with code blinking from the screen. It's ok. He's used to this. Just toss a blanket over him and turn out the light.
- His friends aren't jerks. I can't stress this enough. You'll more likely get "Omg! A GIRL!! Can I see?!" than "Hey hot stuff back that ass up here and let me get some grub on..." They're awkward geeks too and will, 9 times out of 10, treat you with the utmost respect and, more than likely, a note of awe. A cute girl picked one of their clan to date? It could happen to them! Hope! Drag some of your single girlfriends over, open up a pack of Mt. Dew, crack open the DnD set and get working. Nothing impresses geek guys more than a girl who can hack-n-slash (well ok maybe if she can code... a geek can dream).
- They're rarely if ever possessive. They trust you, so you can be yourself around them. You like to walk around the house in a ratty t-shirt for comfort? He won't care. He does too! They won't get pissy if you don't wear make-up or don't want to bother primping your hair. If you gain a few pounds, they won't try their best to make you feel like crap.
- They're usually very well educated. Physics majors and the like. See #5. You won't have to listen to him blathering on about his car (ok maybe a little), he'll have loads of other interesting things to talk about. Politics, world events, how much the chicken burgers down at the local place rock, so long as you douse them in hot sauce...
- You'll almost never have to hear, "Yaw dawg whazzap!!" plop out of their mouths. Unless it's in jest. They spell properly, use correct punctuation, and are able to tell the difference between the toilet and the floor. They almost never get "wasted", so you won't have to worry about coming home to find him and his friends passed out on the floor amidst a pile of beer bottles. Mt. Dew cans, perhaps...
- And the final reason why geeks and nerds make great boyfriends: They actually give a damn about you. Not how you look (though that's a plus), not how skinny you are, not how much make-up you primp yourself up with, but they like you for you. That kind of thing lasts longer than "DaMN baby you got a fine ass!!!" Believe me."

A Questionaire
Nickname: Rocky
Hobbies: My hobbies include playing cricket and listening music. I have taken cricket as my hobby as I like cricket a lot. Cricket is like, a passion for me. In my weekends I usually passed my time by playing cricket and rest of the time I prefer listen music or sometimes I prefer movies.
NERIST – Your alma-mater: NERIST is a place where I have grown and still growing to a young engineer from a school kid. This is a place where I have seen and understand what life really is? This is a place where I study, play cricket, enjoy adda with friends, dance and sing, roam around and stare beautiful girls. This is a place where I found my identity, my value in my family and among my friends. And in my final year I want to enjoy NERIST to its fullest.
EC 2K3: EC 2K3 is my designation that I belong to Electronics and communication engineering, batch 2003. It is the name which I always remember. The class where I did my all classes of Engg. with my friends. It is not only the class, name or designation; it is everyone’s strength. EC 2K3, who always wanted to take challenges.
LOC: LOC for me is the name under which we organize meetings every weekend and talk upon some topics in order to improve our communication skills. It is the group of 15 peoples who meet every weekend to share their point of view.
Your Identity: Still looking for it. I am Rohit for my family and my friends. But for me I am not able to understand myself. I always ask a question from myself that what kind of person I am. And I am unable to answer that. Therefore I can not write more on it.
Your learning/contribution to LOC: I have learned some thing from LOC. I have learned to make friends. I have learned to talk a little more. In DRDO, Delhi I am able to talk and could make friends because of this only.
About my contribution, I have contributed my two hours of weekend to LOC. I am innocent about it.
Rate yourself (out of 5):
1. Committed towards LIFE: 3.5
2. Committed towards FRIENDS: 4
3. Committed towards LOC: 3
Your idea of LOC: LOC is a group of fifteen members who meet every weekend to talk on any kind of topic. This is the platform where we can speak anything we want without any bound. After coming long way with LOC we had some bitter experiences. But now it seems ok. So I think LOC should go in the same manner as it was going before.

sachin reporting
NAME: KASHYAP, SACHIN
NICK NAME: SUGGU
HOBBIES: reading books, playing cricket and bathroom singing
NERIST: proud to be a product of this institute. We, at NERIST, have it to make a name for ourselves. The seniors have been very very inspiring, helpful. I’ll ensure that I make my institute proud of me.
EC-2K3: This batch is just awesome. The way they cooperate, coordinate with each other is just great. And the best thing is that when someone will remember EC-2K3, it’ll not be individuals but the whole batch as a whole. The future managers, technocrats and scientists you name them and we have them. EC-2K3 -----this word will always motivate me and whenever I’ll feel down and out I’ll just remember you guys………so beautiful at their hearts.
LOC: it has been a great concept. Lucky to have been a part of the process. LOC will always hold a special place in my heart. One thing I’ve learnt from LOC is that once you commit yourself to something, stick to it and even if there is some problem try to communicate with each other. Don’t leave the ship in the midst of the tempest.
My identity: hi this is sachin. Main ek accha baaccha hoon aur duniya mein acchaii spread karne le liye paida hoya hoon. Kya aap meri maadat karenge?
My commitment towards life: I’m 24*7 commited (of course towards life yaar ladki hai kahan!!!!!!!!!!!)
My commitment towards friends: 2.5
My commitment towards LOC: 4.0
LOC:
Aim: To utilize our precious time in the best possible way by being with friends, share our thoughts and to do hell of mastiiiii….
Apparatus: friends, loads of laughter, cup of tea , pakoda and thoughts ,ideas, emotions, commitment
Theory: it’s strictly a practical course where everything is based upon serendipity (at the spur of the moment). No theories entertained.
Equations involved:
Thoughts + ideas = LOC.
Cup of tea+pakoda = acidity (so we should drink a cup of milk right….)
Friends+ friends= great time.
Procedure:
1) Go through the process thoroughly and enjoy life.
2) Be positive, keep smiling
3) If at any point of time you want to weep, take out your handkerchief and use it cautiously.(we at LOC feel very strongly as far as hygiene is concerned)
4) Don’t overeat pakoda…….next day’s start will be awful.
Result: it’s never ending process. Experiment goes on. Results awaited.
Precautions:
We feel so honored, so proud to introduce to you a practical course where the one and only precaution is that you should never try to take a precaution. Remember it.

Basu in black & white to fellow LOC'ians....mane tu, ya mane na...
Nick Name: Basu
Hobbies: Workin out in gym, cheking out new deos & perfumes, Listening music on good music systems
What comes to your mind when:-
NERIST - your Alma mater:
I dragged myself all the way .
EC 2K3:
Dynamic in true sense. Studies or regular responsibilities are never a hurdle in enjoying life in true spirit. Can give jittres to anybody, whoever dares to challenge us. From studies, sports, cultural to ....politics we always have a upper hand. We started here in a much descrete way, that, were, used in living alone but gradually became something really continuous over all these years. Though the most populated branch(40) but, good gestures are always unanimously accepted in EC 2K3.
L.O.C.:
15 friends came together to know eachother better & add some value to each others' lives in whatever way they can. To me its the planet where we wont give a second thought to egoes of ourslves but will surely give a boost our self respect, where we wont sbmit to mis understandings but will try to see through ourselves and eachother, where we would rather smile to the friends who sometimes get naughty with us, than yelling at them. Where we grow up, we should rather try to simplify ourselves than getting entangled in messy knots.
Your Identity:Your Learning/ Contribution to L.O.C. :
i am really surprised to realise how some people are really commited to commitment and trying to learn from them. i can add some lightness to the ocassional grim situations during heated sessions. i do regularly put forward my ideas in the metings and i am never dumb.
Rate yourself: (1-5, 1 being least and 5 being best)
() Committed towards life :- 4.99
() Committed towards friends:-4.5
() Committed towards L.O.C.:-4
Your Idea of L.O.C.:-
we have come a long way , still miles to go, just dont give up when its time to stand up tall & strong.
A QUESTIONAIRE; A TRIAL SAURAV answers...
Nick Name: A lot of names i have got in NERIST, And I am still counting!!
Hobbies: On the outset I love so many things and when I like something it means complete dedication. These times in NERIST I can be found mostly on my PC, god save it( because I hardly use the "Shut Down" option)!! But apart from blogging, I use to write a lot, anything and everything. I am, my favorite poet, writer. It is clear from the fact that I enjoy reading what I have written. I tend to give a reflection to all around me that I am a deep thinker, but I am not. I take things at ease and am a Easy going guy...
Ya I also use photoshop software to some good effects and prefer not to sign below any paper I draw upon.
What comes to your mind when:-
(1) NERIST - your Alma mater : Some may agree, when I say that I always knew that life at NERIST would not only be about a technical degree. It will and had been about learning to live on your own, learning to work as a team, building my own team. NERIST has been the perfect launch pad for six years, taught wonderful lessons, and also gave enough exposure to practically live through what had been taught. Going through people of eleven batches....98 batch to 2k8 batch in this beautiful valley I think I have enjoyed everything with a smile on my lips and a song in my heart.
(2)EC-2k3: The best thing that could happen to you!! Wonderful group of skillful souls...Life at her most rewarding days must have been choosing for me. I took my time to intermingle, but once I came forward I have been putting my best feet forward barring some occasions!! EC-2k3, even from a neutral point of view had been the among the bests this institute has ever got. Unfazed from all distracting activities we stood together each and every time. In short I can say, its an perfect case study material for learning successful team work.
(3)L.O.C.: And then it happened!! This formation of L.O.C. just proved the essence of human nature which never ceases to look for more. We found a way to break the shackles, which slowly and surely we were already doing, in a more organized way. We chose to have fun, share our point of view over different issues of academic and non academic interest. This gave a wonderful opportunity to all who chose to be a part of this, in terms of getting some exposure beyond classrooms. And add to it the TEA, and we had a deadly combination of FUN & LEARNING.
Your Identity: Here comes the toughest question!! But I can answer this one. My name itself is my identity, over the years it has been synonymous with confidence, trust, faith... Flattering..?? Huh!!
And yes! Believe me its a vicious circle which keeps sanity prevailing and I would like to be known for my DEDICATION towards my work, for my MORAL ETHICS towards life, yet deriving FUN.
Your Learning/ Contribution to L.O.C. : I have learnt a lot. Starting from a false notion that I have nothing to learn from this idea, it seems I have been on the receiving end more than any other member. I have learnt how important it can be to put the effort together for the cause of society. I have learnt to stand up for my friends, to back them with endless ease. To be more patient, and most important of all is to make friends. Understanding psychology was never my topic before this concept came.
And I can say that LOC has also been receiving some ideas, though reciprocated and refined from the very platform from my side. I have been active and trying to see through some troubled times.
Rate yourself: (1-5, 1 being least and 5 being best)
() Committed towards life :- 3
() Committed towards friends:-5
() Committed towards L.O.C.:-5
Your Idea of L.O.C.:- In her present form this concept is doing quite well till now, but then there goes the concept that the scope of improvement is never gone. And I am sure we will stand up against everything and try to build up the TRUST and become recognisable as a cohesive unit.

THE DEBATE of NERIST
How dare you question the unquestionable?
Who and What is L.O.C.?
With time, things have drastically changed. And with very few who realized the brighter side of what we were actually trying to do, its our time to address the rest about the answers to above questions. Some may argue that how is the soul of this unconventional and 'unauthorized' organization, got to do with this debate. And with with these pretexts, let us first congratulate these small bunch of students who withstood all odds and made this initialization a reality. Congratulations to all the spectators including none other than Respected Director Sir, Deans and teachers whose presence gave us immense adrenaline to gracefully go through with the program and ever so dear friends who finally got convinced that here is a debate which is going to matter to them. Thank you one and all for the overwhelming support.
Now to the basic questions which somehow remained unanswered down the line. Let me put it straight way, the debate in its new form was an idea of L.O.C., but the topic as such had nothing to do with the fundamentals on which this 'tea-a-meet' is sailing.
I always found "Timeline" as the best way to arrange data and let me take you to a small time travel.
Not very long ago, when a trio came up with the idea of triggering a change, when proposed to all, 15 accepted to be a part of this Kinda Fun Club. Starting from the discussion about what actually we were up to with our 15 captain commanded ship, the journey had already begun. in a very little time the ice really started to melt and with all members well versed with each other; we started thinking out of box. Our motto was revolving around having fun mixed with learning the basics of personality development.
Spending valuable time in the meetings we realized that each of us had wonderful and unique talents in the some field or the other and that each of us had a lot to offer to each other in particular and the society in general. through the sips of tea we accepted greetings, welcomed comments/ criticism and strictly abstained from annoying anyone.
Thinking out of box meant getting one's attention beyond what is already being said and done. It meant taking up issues which are only complained about even if it can be resolved with minimum of fuss.
Solving one such issue resulted in present new form of debate. Or dare we say, issues were many, the only thing lacking was Communication. And since no one was putting the plug in the socket, we did!!
These are troubled times and we, the students are still stuck with some basic ideologies. Being students, we complain about least being done to bridge the gap between the teachers and students. We complain about absence of enough guidelines for us to grow and develop our personality in the right direction. We at L.O.C. realized that students who are not satisfied or convinced by the "pro-de-tective" attitude of our immediate guardians; need some space out of the learning room, to talk to them.
We at L.O.C. realized that sparking a change must begin with ourselves(means with students). We believed that getting support from the likes of the very best in the business, most experienced; we can initiate this bridging and we are grateful to be backed up by them.
Let me state clearly, the topic was decided after consulting the honorable participants of the debate, and we at L.O.C. had nothing to do with the content. Throughout the whole event, our vision was concentrated on parting the gap, and this reflects as in the inaugural speech of the debate, L.O.C. emphasized that teachers are above god, beyond any question, any limit, any doubt whatsoever. We firmly believe in this and we don't see any reason why not to.
And we proud that they lent their best hand upon us and took the pain of spreading light among those deprived. With their support and overjoyed for the tremendous turnout, specially \students, we provided opportunity to clear the doubts and misconceptions in their fast developing minds.
Answering the first question, why the debate, we would say, " Ask yourself!"
Was it just a debate? For those who were present there; must have noted the intensity, the flow, the captivity{and was there no difference in the whole approach?} of this unforgettable presentation?
And we have words of encouragement from Raju Barthakur Sir,
"hi saurav,
needless to say, its a great idea and i personally feel, there is a
genuine need to bridge the gap between the profs and the students. undoubtedly, we have to de-mystify the notion of 'power' that usually prevails between the two and which, for the most part, acts as a barrier. and with u guys on the top, i am sure we can do it and do it with elan.
hats off to ur initiative and full marks to ur blog. keep up the good job.
luv and warmest wishes".
And surely it seems that its the Time for Change and NERIST will eventually MAKE WAY FOR L.O.C.

The Meeting that We Had.
With members pouring in from all across the country, there were heaps of experiences to be shared. We got the taste of reputed DRDO Delhi, Prasar Bharati Delhi & Patna, from the likes of IIT Guwahati and from all across from ONGC Shivsagar with freshness pouring in from BSNL Agartala. Leaving the technicalities for the formal seminar, we disscussed the humane aspect of the two months of experience. One important aspect of our realisation was pertaining to the standard of studies in NERIST, which we more often than not complain of. Atleast I can say that those seemingly monotonous classes of Sharan Sir was finally worthwhile during my term in Prasar bharati Patna.
We learnt about Bed sowing a crop, while hardly missing even a single session, Sachs & Goks living upto the expectations of all but some, BSNL Agartala party explored new dimensions of development in the town, Delhi duo had their day of ecstacy and dare I say Romance, ONGC trio had fun mixed with learning while Ari finding enough excuses to visit Dibrugarh to find peace of mind (my best wishes), while Nupz had it quiet and interestingly simple.
But the spark was missing, and so were our two strong pillars Gokul and Rohit Rai. While with neutral notions for the former, I was personally at a state of shock for the latter. i expected him to lead this session and similar to his well known skills, give a new dimension to our L.O.C. family.
"There is a time to let things happen and there is a time to make things happen."
And then at L.O.C. it's always a time for CHANGE, we will surely get along with the same passion and enthusiasm. And with all of us entering in a a completely new phase of life, it makes sense that we make most of whatever opportunities come across us.
Best wishes for the BOSCH and I am sure that EC-2k3 will come out shining brither than ever.
ENJOY with an eye upon your AIM.
